Star Her Many Horses

Star Her Many Horsesis an enrolled member of the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and a descendant of the Oglala Lakota, Taos Pueblo, Meskwaki, and Ojibwe nations. Star obtained her Bachelor of Arts in American Indian Studies from Haskell Indian Nations University in the spring of 2025. Haskell provided Star with a background in Indigenous communal health and the importance of Indigenous histories on tribal wellbeing. 

Star currently attends the University of Kansas as a student in the Indigenous Studies Master’s Program with an emphasis on tribal food systems. As a student in the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Consortium Star’s research project aims to bridge Indigenous land stewardship practices with Western academic soil science to analyze the relationship between soil and tribal communities as a precursor to wellbeing in concepts of Indigenous food systems. Her work is influenced by that of various food sovereignty scholars that aim to Indigenize health models to reflect that of tribal values and understandings of wellbeing. 

Outside of her academic studies, Star is also the co-founder of Oyate a family business that seeks to highlight and share traditional and contemporary Indigenous artforms such as sewing, quillwork, dentalium work, beadwork and other creations. Her passions include dancing, learning her tribal artforms and languages, traveling, and learning about our ancestral foods.
